Weddings – then and now
The wait is over, here is our modern interpretation of Lorraine and Florence’s wedding dresses of 1939 and 1942 respectively. You can see those dresses here.
There were a few key features that we looked for in finding 21st century version of this dress, the first was that it had a small V neck, which this one does. But by dropping it off the shoulders and exposing them is very modern.
The second thing we looked for was the gibson sleeves. Here they are done in lace as opposed to satin, but you can see them pointing slightly down over her hands in the photo.
This dress is actually from Amazon, and features a greater amount of pattern and lace than our originals. It is a fairy tale style bridal gown that combines a number of eras and elements.
Next week we are going to find a modern take on this absolutely STUNNING dress that Audrey Hepburn is wearing in the 1957 movie ‘Funny Face’ where she co-starred with Fred Astaire. This dress is satin with a layered tulle skirt and is very representative of 1950′s fashion at the time.
And if you are not content to just see this gorgeous dress in the picture here, check out the You Tube Video of the Fairy Tale Dance put to a beautiful piece of piano by Yann Tierson.
Its dreamy and amazing, it makes me want to wear a dress like that and to spin like a princess!
