In an age obsessed with youth and beauty, Carmen Dell’Orefice is a welcome reminder that the two are not inextricably linked. How many fabulous 80 year olds do you know? Here’s a lady whose story I found utterly inspiring. Style icon, Carmen proves that working the runway as an octogenarian is not only possible, but pretty darn fabulous as well.
Carmen Dell’Orefice born June 03,1931 is a veteran American model and the oldest working model in the world. Carmen’s parents were of Italian and Hungarian descent. She celebrated her birthday 80th Birthday this weekend as she continues to be a hit on the catwalks of Alberta Ferretti. She has posed for a bevy of top notch photographers like Richard Avedon and Irvin Penn.
This Style Icon has been modelling since 1946 and graced the cover of Vogue at the tender age of 15. In her 66 year career, Ms Dell’Orefice has been on the cover of Vogue six times and been the face of 14 cosmetic campaigns.
