Ideas for 1940’s hair styles

August 4, 2010

Do you have an event coming up that calls for something a bit 1940’s?  Well we have the tips for creating the style as well as some excellent examples of 1940’s style!

This first one here is by hair stylist Rebecca Gohl.  She has a huge range of ideas on her face book page but we loved this one best of all.

So when going for creating a 1940’s there are a couple of really important tips to remember:

1. Always have a side part (never a middle part).  No woman had a middle part in the 40’s, it was always to the side.

2. Go for curls, get out those rollers, especially the really large ones to create big round curls.

3. Finish off with a curling iron and lots of product to make it silky smooth. Though if you get a little frizz do not worry, this was common.

4. Accessorise using pins, combs and decorative elements to give your hair added glitz. Just make sure any normal bobby pins do not not show!

This photo here is of celebrity Katherine Heigl who loves vintage hairstyles especially from the 1940’s and 1950’s. She has done a lot for making the look fashionable again.

More ideas can be found on this 1940’s make up guide because if you have perfect hair why not complement it with your makeup!

The technique was often achieved by washing hair the night before, then putting it in rollers overnight to dry.
