Weddings – now and then

August 19, 2010

So here is my take on the modern version of Betty’s 1944 dress. The round neck style dress is harder to find at the moment, most brides opting for strapless or a wide boat neck and also the detail around the neck line with the additional folds of fabric are also not very common.  But I did find this one on a Weddingo.  In this case they were trying to match the style of the skirt with the ruffled organza look to Coleen Rooney’s dress which cost between 100,000-200,000 pounds.  Ouch!

This dress here by Nicholas Millington is a fraction of that price at 360 pounds (about $800AUD).  But I liked the similarity around the top with little sleeves that sort of lightly sit and fall down the top of the arm and the fold of fabric across the neck line.  For these reasons this one was selected.

Back to celebrity fashion this week and I totally adore this wedding photo!  It is of Frank Sinatra and Ava Gardner and the dress is stunning!

I think Frank and Ava looked like a gorgeous couple, pity the reality wasn’t like that for them, they look so sweet!

Cannot wait to see what I can find!
