Spring Carnival Colours = Bubblegum

October 8, 2010

The Alannah Hill 'Petal Power' Frock ($429) is a good example of the colours and trends, this one features more a mulberry look but you get the idea!

If you are located in Sydney or Melbourne, you may have seen in the Sydney Morning Herald or the Melbourne Age on Sunday a lift out magazine called the field.  I have had so much fun with this magazine.  One feature article was ‘Racewear Rewind’ in which it took a retrospective look at race fashion from the 1860s, 1900s, 1930s, 1950s and 1960s.  For the 1950s the look was very much inspired by ‘The New Look‘ by Christian Dior, with the full skirt that falls to mid calf and a ballooning v-neck long sleeve top.  Although there was nothing surprising about the look, I did love the hand drawn pictures.

Tony Bianco Tribal 'Cabaret' platform shoes ($169.95)

Skipping ahead in the magazine was a ‘look book’ for this years 2010 spring racing season, so I am going to report what I found and that is a predominant bubblegum colour scheme.  What are bubblegum colours?  Think about blueberry, lipgloss pink, banana yellow, Ribenna berry purple and cherry red and combine them all together.  Add in a decent splash of floral and animal print and you pretty much have the predicted fashion colours and patterns.
