Vintage swimwear is no longer vintage

Daisy Lowe in Dolce & Gabana

It is probably too late for the Australian Summer, but in 10 months time we are likely to see lots more 50s style swimwear in our stores.  Over the last 6 to 12 months there has been a trend towards vintage fashion, including dresses, skirts and blouses.  For the swimsuits, we’ve only had mumblings so far, but this looks set to change.

Today it was announced, Daisy Lowe daughter of designer Pearl Lowe will create a line of vintage swimwear for fashion high street store ‘Peacocks’.  Bettie Page is said to be one of Lowe’s inspirations for the four piece line which will hit the English stores in May.

Although we are unlikely to see these Daisy Lowe designed pieces in Australia, designers are taking note.  I wouldn’t be surprised to see fashion stores, like Witchery, Portmans and Country Road doing something along these vintage lines for our next summer!
