Think Pink!

April 12, 2011

March 26th was a beautiful, memorable day for a very famous couple. Reese Witherspoon tied the knot with her Talent Agent beau Jim Toth in a small, ranch style themed wedding in the confines of her Ojai, California home. The event was covered exclusively by People Magazine. Being a connoisseur of style and fashion forwardness, Reese chose a refreshingly unconventional pink Monique Lhuillier gown to say ‘I do’. The dress was  adequately conservative but no less stunning for the second-time bride and mother of two.

Reese is one of the female acting powerhouses in Hollywood and one of the most bankable stars in the world.  She is most famously known for her roles as Elle Woods in ‘Legally Blonde’ and June Carter Cash in ‘Walk The Line.’ The latter movie saw her win a plethora of top awards including an Oscar, Golden Globe, Bafta and a SAG award for best actress in a leading role.

When it comes to weddings these days, themes are driven more by personal preference and style rather than tradition. Individuality and uniqueness at a wedding are a refreshing change from your typical fruitcake-and-white-wedding-dress affairs. A number of bold brides are opting for lots of different colours when it comes to their wedding gowns. Sarah Jessica Parker famously wore a defiant black dress for her wedding (she later admitted that she regretted her choice of black but hurray to her for venturing into previously unchartered fashion territory!) If bold colours such as red and black do not curry your favour, one may opt for conservative pastel shades such as light pinks, blues and purples. These  make for distinctly different but memorable wedding gowns and while they are a unique choice, they don’t deviate too drastically from revered tradition.

A number of celebrities have previously jumped onto the pink wedding dress band wagon. Gwen Stefani wed her leading man, rocker Gavin Rossdale in a pink, dip-dyed dress by John Galliano, while  Sharon Stone wed in a timeless chiffon Vera Wang creation.

The colour, cut and style of a bride’s gown is the ultimate expression of her personality. The most important piece of advice a bride could possibly get would be to choose a dress that is a reflection of who she is and not to be curtailed  by the opinions or expectations of others.
