This year’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week kicked in spite of the cold weather in Sidney. The premier fashion event is a platform for Australian and Asia Pacific designers to showcase their collections and attempt to catch the eye of international buyers and media.

A look back at Australia Fashion week in 2009

This year saw 15 designers (up from last year’s 10) dress up elegant and glamorous models in their designs for the 5-day event. Some of the lucky designers include Alex Perry, Yeojin Bae, Marnie Skillings, Lee Mathews and Arnsdorf.

Arnsdorf’s collection was minimalist, fresh and inspired by tribal embellishment with the liberal use of ‘mint’. The collection of softJennifer Hawkins in Ellery tailoring in airy silks and linens that came across almost ethereally in their lightness and ease. The label’s designer Jade Sarita Arnott recently made the move to New York, though she continues to support the local industry that has supported her.

Ellery’s collection on the other hand maintained the elegance of years past and coupled this with bright, vivid colours and beautiful tailoring. Guests  at the label’s runway show were delighted by the surprise appearance of Jennifer Hawkins, Miss Universe 2004 on the catwalk wearing an elegant yellow ensemble.
