Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge dons vintage

July 4, 2011

This is one Princess that can do no wrong when it comes to fashion. Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge has her feet firmly cemented in the footsteps of the biggest fashion icons of past times. Every outfit that she dons sets the fashion community abuzz with collective oohs and ahhs. Outfits have sold out in minutes after Kate has been photographed in them.

Her recent homage to vintage fashion in Canada made vintage enthusiats everywhere love her even more. This past Saturday, Kate kept it simple and striking in a vintage inspired, monochrome grey dress by Catherine Walker, a favourite of the Late Princess Diana. The short-sleeved, knee-length,  ‘Kensington Dress’ is a wonderful color and featured a dramatic deep v-back and an angled collar which is a hot trend seen on the Spring runways of Balenciaga, Miu Miu, Marc Jacobs and Phillip Lim.

The grey Kensington dress was an understated pick for a tree-planting ceremony at Rideau Hall followed by a reception at the Canadian War Museum to meet veterans and war brides. The couple arrived in Quebec after a short plane ride with Kate wearing the same outfit. Kate paired the short-sleeved shift dress with silver pumps, a grey clutch and no hat. The muted ensemble struck the correct respectful tone for the somewhat sombre occasion.
