Sunglasses 101

March 2, 2012

No day outfit is complete without a pair of sunglasses. However, it is imperative that you know what style suits you best. With so many choices, picking sunglasses can seem like a monumental task. Using a few quick guidelines, you can whittle down your choices and just focus on the sunglasses that are going to best complement your face and personal style.

The most important step is to determine what kind of face shape you have. If you have a round face shape, stick to a rectangular or square shape glasses since these can help slim down your face. The opposite of a round face is a square face. If this is you, go with round or oval lenses as they can help soften up your angular features. A heart shape face or one that has wide forehead and narrow chin needs balance and colorful frames and lenses. Good news if you have an oval face. You have your pick. Oval faces look good with any type of frame, but if you must narrow down, look for a square frame.

A quick note on safety: No matter what kind of sunglasses you end up choosing, make sure that they offer 100% UV protection. Most quality lenses provide this, but it is always a good idea to double check. UV protection will shield your eyes from potentially harmful rays. These harmful rays are made even more dangerous because a tinted lens of any kind will cause your pupils to dilate, thereby letting in more light.
